- Volunteers: Volunteers are individuals who assist team members without compensation or expectation of compensation beyond reimbursement and perform tasks at the direction of and on behalf of the SKGH Water Safety Coalition. Unless specifically stated, volunteers are not considered an "employee" of any agency, in particular the lead agency Texas Children’s Hospital.
-
Membership: The SKGH partners and volunteers are required to complete and submit a SK Membership Form. This form officially accepts and enrolls, both the partners and volunteers, prior to performance of any Safe Kids task.
- What We Do: The teams participate in and/or actively support independent corporate drowning prevention and water safety programs throughout the region. We strive to consolidate our expertise, knowledge, skills, and resources to accomplish the following goals.
- Educate adults to actively watch children in or near water, to the exclusion of other activities.
- Teach children under the age 13 that they must wear life jackets while on boats. (It’s also the law.)
- Inform individuals that if they are not comfortable in the water to wear a life jacket when they are within 10 feet of water.
- Learn CPR to save a life when seconds count.
We all aim to build public awareness for the need for water safety and the use of life jackets within our local communities, and in particular, our minority and non-English-speaking groups.
- How We Work: Every year, our team members are highly encouraged to select and participate in an official committee(s). It is the responsibility of the committee to appoint a lead organization and facilitator to manage a yearly program, project, event, and/or activity. The committee, programs, projects, events, and activities, managed by the team leaders, represent the heart and soul of the water safety coalition.
- Committee: In 2008, the SKGH water safety team has approved and supports seven (7) official committees. The committees are listed below.
